Mama's runnin'

I am not an athlete. Never have been. This post is for all you unathletic people out there. yeah, all four of us.

I started dancing at 2 and on into college. Its not the same thing. You know you've seen those t-shirts that say "dancers are athletes too." That's not true.

I tried out for 7th grade volleyball and basketball and I didn't even make the B team. Pathetic.

I remember running a 5k in college and even then, it took me 32 minutes. I am just not a fast runner. Even though I would LOVE to be. That 5k lead to a long string of running during my single days which included a half marathon that took me 2 hours. I have always dreamed of running a full marathon. One day...one day.

Today we participated in Run for Compassion to raise money for Compassion's Child Survival Program. I drug this extremely out of shape post-baby body to the starting line. Joe pushed the double stroller and I ran next to him (most of the time). Joe and I ran before we got married and us rekindling this past time has been a dream come true for me. I just adore this time together. I love having his company while we exercise and cherish our children being along for the ride too.

Today I felt even more out of shape and mile 2 kicked my bootie. I sent Joe on ahead and this sweet little 10 year old girl was my inspiration. She would have finished in 25 minutes if her dad hadn't kept her back with him. She was a machine and just a natural, gifted runner. I can't even imagine what that's like.

The last mile, my new friend MacKenzie and I trotted along while I was saying scriptures in my head and having a grand ole' time!! Joe and I are hoping to do another race in a couple months.

Here's MacKenzie, Izy and me after the run :)

Hope you have a great weekend!

Hey...I think 32 minutes for a 5K is great! AND 2 hours for a 1/2 Marathon is good, too! Charlie and I are both athletes (I guess you could say) and neither of those times were far behind what we did yesterday and several years ago for our half. You are TOO hard on yourself!
